WHY LOFT BOARDING?

Why Install Loft Boarding?

We are very proud to use floor boarding of the highest quality which is 18mm thick and moisture resistant. Manufactured in Scotland, CaberFloor P5 is a high density, high-performance flooring panel that is thoroughly durable and highly moisture resistant, the board offers precision and stability and is an excellent surface for floor laying projects.
Loft boarding has the potential to add a huge 50% more floor space to your property, which is a great perk to consider if you think you’ll be selling in the future.
Getting professional loft boarding enables safe and convenient access, which adds extra value to your home because accessible loft storage space is known to boost kerb appeal.

For storage purposes, loft boarding doesn’t require you to have planning permission and is totally within your permitted development rights. However, if you’re turning a loft storage space into an actual living space afterwards, then this will require permission and compliance with a different set of regulations to ensure safety and protect your relevant warranties.
The floor joists in a loft can carry roughly 40 kg per square metre, so ensuring you keep your stored items under this will maintain the strength of your joists. It’s crucial to not overload your loft boarding to avoid the chance of any cracks in the ceiling below while protecting the joists from cracking – so try to spread out the weight in your loft as best you can.
It’s very important to us that our team have the required insurance, training and qualifications for the type of work they carry out. Such as Asbestos identification, working at height and managing risk through detailed assessments. This ensures we provide outstanding service and deliver your project safely.
If we wanted to ruin your loft insulation, we’d use standard loft boarding. But as loft experts, we steer clear of nailing loft boards directly onto joists, as this will just compromise the amount of airflow that passes through the layers of flooring and will eventually cause too much damage to the property.
If you are currently using this space for nothing, then loft boarding will almost certainly increase the value of your property. It’s said that installing loft boarding can add up to 50% more floor space, especially when combined with our range of fitted ladder options that fold and collapse.
When fitted properly by trained experts, loft boarding cannot in any way damage a property. On the other hand, if a new flooring system is fitted incorrectly, it can create a world of problems. For example, standard loft boarding can lead to a build-up of damp and heat loss throughout the home.
No, loft boarding is not expensive, espeically when you consider the energy saving potential and reduced heating bills.
Most lofts are perfectly safe, so don’t worry! But if you live in a pre-war-era home or you just need extra peace of mind before going ahead, we offer Structural Calculations and Certificates so you can get an indication of the maximum load limit.
